The budget allocation for the poor, marginalized and Indigenous Peoples is very low. In the forthcoming budget, the speakers urged to increase the allocation for the people of this class-profession. The speakers expressed such at a webinar titled 'Increased Budget and Participation of Women, Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Peoples in Preventing Poverty and Inequality' organized by the Association for Land Reform and Development (ALRD) and Banik Barta on May 13, 2022.
The meeting was chaired by eminent human rights activist and ALRD Chairperson Ms. Khushi Kabir. The webinar and was also attended by Dr. Shafiq Uz Zaman, Professor of Economics, Dhaka University; Sanjeev Drong, General Secretary of Bangladesh Adivasi Forum, Abu Saeed Khan, Advisory Editor of Samakal, Nirupa Dewan, Former Member of National Human Rights Commission, Shamsul Huda, Executive Director of ALRD.
Among the regional speakers were Idris Ali, Professor of Government Haji Muhammad Muhsin College from Chittagong, Abu Sufian, President of Haor Bachao Andolan from Sunamganj, Rabindranath Saren, President of Jatiya Adivasi Parishad, Afzal Hossain, Director of Rulfaway, Rajshahi, Rafiqul Islamok, Executive Director Director Sara Marandi.
Eminent researcher and president of the Bangladesh Economic Association Dr. Abul Barkat presented the key note paper. Mr. Dewan Hanif Mahmud, News Editor of Bonik Barta gave introductory speech.
