Seminar: Research findings on violence against women in relation to land

Seventy-two per cent of women in the country face land-related disputes or violence. Of these, 56 per cent directly experience physical, psychological, and economic abuse. Among women who have suffered such abuse, 89 per cent face extreme psychological oppression, 78 per cent suffer economic loss, and 30 per cent face threats to their physical safety. Only 20 per cent of women affected by land disputes are able to file cases in court. The remaining 80 per cent are unable to pursue judicial remedies due to cost and legal complexity. These findings were presented on 27 August 2026 at a national seminar titled "Land Rights and Violence Against Women in Rural Bangladesh," organized by the Association for Land Reform and Development (ALRD) at the ATM Shamsul Huq Auditorium in CIRDAP, in Dhaka.
