To mark the observance of International Indigenous Peoples' Day 2026, a

national seminar titled “Indigenous Peoples: Life, Land Rights and Respect for

Culture” was held at 10:30 am on 6 August 2026 at the CIRDAP Auditorium in

Dhaka, jointly organized by 17 organizations.

Honorable Members of Parliament Anna Minj MP and Advocate Madhabi

Marma MP attended as guests of honor. Human rights activist Ilira Dewan

presented the keynote paper.

Panel discussants included Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director of

Transparency International Bangladesh; Sanjeeb Drong, General Secretary of

the Bangladesh Indigenous Peoples Forum; researcher and anthropologist Dr.

Ishita Dastidar; and Dr. Fauzia Moslem, President of Bangladesh Mahila

Parishad. Indigenous leaders from the plains and the Chittagong Hill Tracts,

along with representatives of other civil society organizations, also took part in

the discussion.
